New Literary Translation/Literature Journal

31 Jan

Asymptote,” the site informs us, “is an exciting new international journal dedicated to literary translation.”

And it is. Which is awesome. But it’s more than that. For example: finding a new story by Liu Zhenyun, translated by Howard Goldblatt, was very exciting. But check out what else you get besides the translation: you get the original to read in either simplified or original Chinese, plus the original performed in Chinese, plus a translator’s note on the piece.

It’s a really thoughtful, lovely presentation. I have high hopes for Asymptote as it grows, and for the wider appreciation of literary translation as well.
