Secret Sonnet for the Cockroach

No, I’m not kidding. Really, if you’d told me ten minutes ago that I’d be endorsing a poem about a cockroach, I would have thought you were kidding. But I’m not.

Nic Sebastian posted a reading of this poem from Alex Grant’s Fear of Moving Water today.

I know you probably don’t want to spend the next few minutes with cockroaches. I know you probably would like to avoid cockroaches in all forms (including the sonnet) whenever possible. I know.     Beneficial or not, most people do not want them in their
    homes. Starve them to death or at least force them to move.
    Youu can also try putting boric acid inside the vacuum cleaner sso that the roaches won’t be able to get out once they get in.

    If I had a magic wand I could have made a fortune ridding the homes of hysterical callers of the dreaded German roach.
    This is fairly distasteful but often essential to eradicate the bulk of pests which have invaded some area of a constructing.
    The University of Rhode Island Landscape Horticulture Program recommends dedicating “five to ten percent of your garden space to growing flowers”
    to attract beneficial insects.
