MLKNG SCKLS & The Understanding Campaign

23 Sep

MLKG SCKLS is a collaborative effort of a book by Justin Sirois and Haneen Alshujairy. It reads like sand in your eyes, at the corners of chapped lips, caked in the scab you didn’t know you scratched. The uncooking scene is worth the cover price alone, and what’s best, it’s only the “deleted scenes” of the full novel, Falcons on the Floor, due out next year, I believe.

In their conversations while collaborating on the book, Justin and Haneen uncooked the idea of The Understanding Campaign.

“The Understanding Campaign wants everyone in the world to read just one word of Arabic. Fhm (pronounced Fuh’hem) literally means Understanding. Through true understanding we can break down stereotypes and taboos – our mission is to begin with a single word,” reads their Kickstarter page. Which brings me to my next point:

Justin and Haneen have launched a Kickstarter page to raise money to fund the Campaign’s aspirations to become a legit non-profit, and become an international organization that promotes understanding between the Western and Arab cultures through literature, art, and community.

Please check out their Kickstarter page, and even if you can’t back the Campaign financially, I hope you’ll at least spread the word.

I’m going to use part of that first paragraph when I blurb SCKLS, man. Make me very happy. Thank you.
